Webster Students Recreate a Colonial Town with “Websterville”

alttext

The colonial town of ‘Websterville” came alive this past Friday at Webster Elementary through its 64 fifth graders.  Based on their study of life in Colonial America, the students assumed the roles of Websterville townspeople.  In preparation for the day, they learned about eighteenth-century daily life and customs for all levels of society.  They reviewed films, wrote reports, read books and learned how to march.  Students practiced speaking in character, be it a slave, apprentice, craftsman, shopkeeper, lady or gentleman.

The students built a town complete with apothocaries, bakeries, a blacksmith, chandler/soapmaker, cobbler, cooper, hatter, millinery shop, papermaker, potter, print shop, saddler, silversmith, tobacconist, wigmakers, two taverns, a colonial gentry home, a farm, and their very own militia.
