The annual Rotary Club of Malibu High School and Middle School Singing Competition is set for Tuesday night. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

The Artist’s Image at Craig Krull Gallery will focus on one aspect of McMillan’s artistic practice, his photographic portraiture of artists. This exhibition demonstrates his inventive techniques at creating a persona rather than a mere likeness. Concurrently, the gallery will present an exhibition of photographs from the 1960s by Dennis Hopper.

Artists Joel Harris and Farideh Azad invite you to join them at the closing reception for drinks, refreshments, and conversation. A canyon resident and full-time artist and father, Harris presents an array of artwork: acrylic paintings, pen and ink drawings, and collage. Farideh Azad, a ceramicist and glass blower, is a six-year veteran of the Gallery. Formally trained in interior design at the University of Minnesota, Azad’s family settled permanently in the US from Iran just before the Iranian revolution.

The Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, Malibu, will debut its new exhibit “The Epic and the Exotic: 19th Century Academic Realism from the Dahesh Museum of Art”. In the 19th century, the great academies of Europe represented a continuation of the grand tradition of European classical art. By emphasizing idealized forms, perfect detail, and noble subjects inspired by history, these official art schools stressed rigorous technical training.
